La présidente de l’Association internationale d’information sur la dépigmentation artificielle (AIIDA), le professeur Fatoumata Ly, a plaidé samedi pour l’interdiction de la vente des produits cosmétiques dépigmentants afin d’éradiquer le phénomène croissant de ’’la dépigmentation cosmétique volontaire (DCV)’’ notée au Sénégal.
’’Des mesures doivent être prises par les plus hautes autorités étatiques pour interdire la commercialisation de ces produits cosmétiques dépigmentants pour éradiquer ce fléau’’, a-t-elle déclaré.
Le professeur Fatoumata Ly s’exprimait ainsi à l’occasion du panel sur la dépigmentation, organisé par l’AIIDA et axé sur le thème : ’’quelles mesures pour une politique nationale de prévention de la dépigmentation cosmétique volontaire’’.
Selon elle, la problématique de la dépigmentation, pratique consistant à utiliser des produits dont les propriétés dépigmentantes sont clairement établies dans le but d’obtenir une clarté de peau, un éclaircissement du teint, ’’est avant tout économique’’.
A l’en croire, ‘’si depuis les années cinquante ce problème reste entier, cela est dû principalement aux dizaines de milliards brassés tous les ans par ce commerce lucratif’’.
‘’Il faut que l’Etat prenne à bras le corps ce problème et sache qu’aujourd’hui on gagne peut-être sur la vente des produits dépigmentants, mais demain, ce sera une population malade et il en faudra plus, compte tenu de nos ressources limitées, pour y faire face’’, a-t-elle soutenu.
‘’il y a trop de laisser-aller car on ne peut pas dans un pays comme le Sénégal où le président poète Léopold Sédar Senghor a chanté la femme noire, que l’on accepte que les femmes, inconsciemment, s’autodétruisent en créant un problème de santé majeur’’, a pour sa part, indiqué, la sociologue, Marie Angélique Savané, membre d’honneur d’AIIDA.
Pour la maire de la ville de Dakar, Soham El Wardini, ‘’le mal est profond quand on voit le nombre d’intellectuelles qui s’adonnent à cette pratique (….)’’.
’’Il s’agit d’un phénomène social mondial essentiellement féminin en particulier chez les femmes originaires d’Afrique sub-saharienne avec des prévalences qui varient de 25 à 80%’’, a fait savoir le professeur Ibrahima Wone, lors de sa présentation sur l’épidémiologie de la DCV au Sénégal.
Selon des études transversales descriptives sur des échantillons représentatifs de femmes à Dakar en 2004 et en 2008 à Kaffrine et aux Parcelles-Assainies, à Dakar, le phénomène dont la prévalence dépasse les 50%, ’’touche principalement les femmes mariées, analphabètes ou peu instruites, et travailleuses’’, a-t-il renseigné.
Il concerne surtout, a-t-il dit, ’’les femmes entre 18 et 35 ans, et les femmes sans revenus fixes’’.
’’La première conséquence de cette pratique est naturellement la destruction de la mélanine, cette couche qui protège la peau noire contre les effets des rayons ultra-violets du soleil’’, a souligné le Dr Amadou Ndour, dans une présentation sur les complications endocriniennes de la DCV.

Il a également fait état d’autres ’’complications secondaires’’ dangereuses telles que les cancers, le diabète, l’hypertension artérielle, des maladies à soins couteux qui engendrent de lourds impacts sur le plan financier.
’’Aujourd’hui, les proportions du recours à la DCV dans certaines zones ou localités du pays augurent la recrudescence des maladies précitées au Sénégal au cours des prochaines années’’, a ainsi alerté le conseiller technique numéro deux du ministre de la Santé et de l’Action sociale, Dr Bernabé Gning.
C’est pourquoi, ’’des stratégies multisectorielles et novatrices sont nécessaires pour lutter contre ce phénomène’’, a-t-il reconnu, après avoir reçu au nom du ministre, un mémorandum de dix-neuf association féminines, déclinant les grandes actions à mettre en œuvre pour juguler ce mal.
